According to Reuters, Anthropic is planning to develop its own AI chips in response to a shortage of AI chips needed to run more advanced AI systems, due to increasing market demand. However, this plan is still in its early stages.

According to two sources and one who claims to have been briefed by Anthropic on their AI chip development plans, the plan is in its early stages, and Anthropic may not design the AI chips themselves, but may simply purchase them. Sources say Anthropic has not yet decided on a specific design, nor has it assembled a dedicated team to work on the project.

Furthermore, Anthropic recently announced a contract to secure a large quantity of Google's AI-focused processors, 'TPUs,' in April 2026.
