SoftBank signs $2 billion investment deal with Intel; Trump administration also in talks to acquire 10% of Intel shares



On August 19, 2025, Japan time, SoftBank Group announced that it had signed an agreement to invest $2 billion (approximately 296 billion yen) in Intel.

Under the agreement, SoftBank Group will acquire Intel shares for $23 per share (approximately 3,400 yen). Upon signing the agreement, SoftBank Group Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son said, 'Semiconductors are the foundation of every industry. Intel has been a trusted innovation leader for over 50 years, and this strategic investment is in line with our expectations of further developing advanced semiconductor manufacturing and supply in the United States, in which Intel plays a vital role.'

Intel CEO Lip-Vu Tan also emphasized his personal connection with Son and his gratitude to the SoftBank Group, saying, 'We are excited to further our relationship with SoftBank, which shares our commitment to being at the forefront of many areas of advanced technology and innovation and advancing American technology and manufacturing leadership. I have worked closely with Masa for decades and appreciate the trust he has shown in Intel with this investment.'

It has been reported that the Donald Trump administration is planning to invest in Intel as a government entity, but Bloomberg recently reported on August 19, 2025 (Japan time) that 'the Trump administration is in talks to acquire 10% of Intel's shares.'
