SoftBank's Masayoshi Son has proposed 'Project Crystalland,' a $1.4 trillion AI robot manufacturing facility in Arizona, to the Trump administration and TSMC.

Bloomberg, an American economic media outlet, reported that Masayoshi Son, founder of SoftBank Group, is planning to partner with TSMC to build a huge base for developing robots and AI in Arizona, U.S. The scale of this plan is estimated to be as much as $1 trillion (about 145 trillion yen), and it is said that the plant could be used to manufacture production lines for industrial robots equipped with AI.

Anonymous sources told Bloomberg that Son is considering building a large-scale robot manufacturing facility in the US similar to the one in Shenzhen, China. The facility would be codenamed 'Project Crystalland,' and SoftBank executives have already been in talks with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and other government officials about possible tax incentives, Bloomberg reported.
If this comes to fruition, factories for robotics startups and related companies in which SoftBank has invested could be built at the site.

Son also wants to have TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor fab company that manufactures NVIDIA's cutting-edge AI chips, manufacture the AI chips that will be installed in the robot, and is already working on this.
Regardless of this plan, TSMC is already planning to invest $165 billion in the United States and has opened a factory in Arizona to begin mass production of chips. It is unclear whether TSMC will be interested in Son's 'Project Crystalland' initiative.

Son also has a list of potential participants for the Crystalland project, and is reaching out to a variety of technology companies, including Samsung, Bloomberg reported.
Of course, these plans are still in the planning stages, and their feasibility depends on the judgment of the Trump administration and Arizona state authorities. It is also important to see whether the tech companies ultimately approached show interest, even if the project is worth more than $1.4 trillion.
