Meta announced new investment plans for AI infrastructure on July 15, 2025. Meta plans to operate a multi-gigawatt AI data center called 'Prometheus' by 2026 and a 5 gigawatt AI infrastructure called 'Hyperion' within a few years. It has been revealed that the area of Hyperion will cover the entire island of Manhattan in New York, and it was clear that a very large facility was planned to be built in a short period of time.

Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg responded to an interview with The Information and said, 'We have a very strong infrastructure team to build data centers. Instead of spending four years building concrete buildings, we've developed a new way to speed up the construction process by erecting weatherproof tents and building network and GPU clusters inside them.' The remarks can be seen from around 10 minutes and 25 seconds in the video below.

After Zuckerberg's remarks, Meta confirmed that it is using weather-resistant tents in its data center under construction in Ohio, and posted an aerial photo of the tents on social media. The photos show that the tents look quite sturdy.
Here's a photo taken during the dark hours. The exterior is covered in a waterproof fabric. Meta calls these tents 'rapid deployment structures.'

It's not clear how many AI data centers will use tents, but Meta says its new approach of using weather-resistant tents to house GPU clusters will enable data centers to be up and running in months instead of years.
