I took a variety of photos to test the photography capabilities of the Google Pixel 10a, which has a flat back with no camera bump.

Google's new smartphone, the Google Pixel 10a , was released on April 14, 2026. The Pixel 10a eliminates the large camera bar characteristic of the Pixel series, resulting in a flat back without any camera bumps. 'While the flat design is nice, how is the photo-taking performance?' To answer this question, we took the Pixel 10a outside and took various photos.

The appearance of the Pixel 10a is summarized in the following article. This time, I'll try taking various photos with the new flat camera.

This is what the Pixel 10a's camera looks like. It has a dual-lens setup with a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera. The sensor size is 1/2 inch for the wide-angle camera and 1/3.1 inch for the ultrawide camera.

The zoom magnification ranges from 0.5x to 8x. At 0.5x, it uses the ultra-wide camera, at 1x it uses the wide-angle camera, and other magnifications are compensated for by digital zoom.

The following images were taken with an ultrawide camera at 0.5x magnification. The example photos in this article have not been edited in any way other than being resized; clicking on each photo will allow you to view the original, un-reduced image.

The same location was photographed at 1x magnification.

2x magnification. While the image quality is noticeable at 100% magnification, it's perfectly adequate for viewing on a small smartphone screen.

8x magnification. As expected, with this much digital zoom, even on a small screen, the flaws become noticeable.

The Pixel 10a's camera features macro focus, allowing you to get very close to your subject. Below is an example of getting as close as possible to focus on a 10,000 yen bill.

This is what the photo looks like when taken at the shortest distance. I was able to capture even the markings on Eiichi Shibusawa's face in clear detail.

I also took a photo of the Tokyo Station Marunouchi building on the back.

So, I tried taking various photos with the Pixel 10a. Unless otherwise specified, the following photos were taken with the wide-angle camera.

I took a picture of the road. With a high-end smartphone, you can capture even the pattern of the asphalt clearly, but when you view the photo taken with the Pixel 10a at 100%, the roughness of the image is noticeable.

I took a picture of a flower. The background is nicely blurred.

Yoshinoya.

I ordered the '

Exquisite Beef Rice Bowl.'

Taken at close range. The black parts of the tray and the white parts of the green onions are captured without any loss of detail in the black areas or overexposure in the white areas.

I took these photos while strolling around the city at night.

I came to a mala tang restaurant that recently opened near the editorial office. The Pixel 10a doesn't have image stabilization, so even when I think I'm holding it steady, it tends to be blurry in low light.

The ingredients were arranged in a bowl for the photo. Due to the lighting, the whole picture came out with a bluish tint.

I took a photo of the finished Mala Tang. At 1x zoom, the shadow of the Pixel 10a itself was visible, so I used 2x zoom.

I photographed the soup using 2x zoom. Even at 2x zoom, the image quality doesn't degrade significantly, so I can flexibly switch between zoom levels depending on the situation.

A curry restaurant near the editorial office, '

Nepal Shokudo Bar Pipal '.

Onions and potatoes were being sold at the storefront.

I took a photo of the curry set. Perhaps due to the silver plate, the overall picture turned out dark. I take photos with various cameras and smartphones at Balpipal, but it's rare for a photo to turn out this dark.

When photographing a meat dish on a matte blue plate under the same lighting, it turned out this bright.

I walked to the station.

Shot with an ultrawide camera.

This photo was also taken with an ultrawide-angle camera. The effect of the ultrawide-angle lens, which makes objects appear to spread outwards from the center, resulted in an interesting photograph.

Bus terminal.

I took a photo of the road from a pedestrian overpass.

After taking various photos with the Pixel 10a, I found that while it doesn't have the same resolution as high-end smartphones, it produces sufficiently high-quality photos for viewing on a small smartphone screen. Its macro focus feature allows for situations like taking close-up shots of your hands while eating. Furthermore, it can take bright photos even at night if you hold it steady. Overall, it has sufficient camera performance for a mid-range smartphone.

The Pixel 10a is available at the official Google store for ¥79,900 (tax included) for the minimum configuration. It is also available on Amazon.co.jp, and at the time of writing, the 128GB storage model can be purchased for ¥73,457 (tax included).
