The CAD files for the Steam Controller have been officially released under a Creative Commons license.

Valve has released CAD files for the Steam Controller , a PC gamepad released on May 5, 2026, and its wireless transmitter and charging station, the Steam Controller Puck , under a Creative Commons license. This will allow users to create their own custom parts and accessories for the Steam Controller.

The Steam Controller was announced in November 2025 along with the Steam Machine gaming PC and the Steam Frame VR device, and was released on May 4, 2026 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time (May 5, 2026 at 2:00 AM Japan Time).

Valve has now released CAD files for the Steam Controller and Steam Controller Puck. According to a Steam community blog post, the STP and STL files are available on GitLab under a Creative Commons license, making it easy to modify these gadgets and create 3D printable accessories. Some reference files also list prohibited areas where things that would interfere with normal operation, such as antennas and magnetic connectors, should be placed.
These 3D CAD files are available under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 international license . This means that anyone can freely share their creations, such as 3D-printed smartphone holders, charging bases, table hooks, etc., provided they credit the original creator, use them only for non-commercial purposes, and distribute the works under the same or a compatible license.

However, if you intend to sell works based on this data, you will need to obtain a separate license from Valve.
This isn't the first time Valve has released 3D CAD files for its hardware. Valve also officially released CAD files for the Steam Deck, a portable gaming PC released in 2022. As a result, many users have shared 3D printing data for accessories and modification parts for the Steam Deck.
