I tried playing the demo version of 'Oaken Tower,' a PvP game where you combine items to create the strongest tower and beat up your opponents.

Oaken Tower is a PvP game where players combine items to create the strongest tower and battle against each other. I played it to see what kind of game it is.

Steam: Oaken Tower Demo

A demo version is available to play for free. The full version of the game is scheduled to be released on April 28, 2026.

This is what it looks like when you start it up. I immediately clicked 'Casual' to play a match and get a feel for the game flow.

I was taken to a screen to select Packs and Perks, but both were marked as 'Available in the Full Version,' and I couldn't edit them. I clicked 'START.'

One of the four Perks selected will be chosen randomly. This time, the 'TOXIC' Perk was chosen. In addition to obtaining the starting equipment 'Refined Spear,' it seems that you will get something called a 'Poison Slot' on the fourth day, or the fourth battle.

Click 'Enter Shop' to enter the store.

The shop screen looks like this. You are given 55 gold as initial funds, and you can get 45 gold every day. Nine items are lined up in the center. Clicking the button in the bottom right corner will refresh the selection for 3 gold.

It also appears there's a level system. As your level increases, higher rarity items become more readily available in the shop, your maximum HP increases, and your daily income increases by 5 gold.

It seems that your level is also a factor in determining the rarity of the treasure chests you obtain.

You can purchase experience points using the button on the far right. You can buy them in units of 4 gold, or right-click to buy all the experience points needed to level up at once.

The ice button allows you to freeze items. Items are automatically rerolled after each battle, but if you freeze them, they won't be rerolled.

I equipped the 'Refined Spear' that I received first. There are 6 equipment slots, and for now, the effect is the same no matter which slot you place it in. Hovering the cursor over it displays detailed information. In the case of this item, the effect is 'triggered every 2.3 seconds to deal 15 damage.' The rarity is Common and it also has the tags 'Spear' and 'Elven.'

Since a poison-related perk was selected this time, I looked for poison-related items and found a shield with a poison icon. This shield has the effect of applying 2 stacks of poison to enemies every 3.4 seconds while also granting a 15 shield to yourself.

The spear next to it had the effect of 'increasing damage by 2 when a debuff is applied,' so I bought that too. The strategy is to inflict poison while increasing damage.

Upon leaving the shop, the battle preparation screen appeared. A random opponent was displayed, along with one item equipped on the tower they had created. Click 'FIGHT!'.

The battle screen looks like this. Battles are auto-battles, so no input is required. Both sides' items activate automatically, and the first to deplete the opponent's HP wins. Start the battle by clicking 'FIGHT!'.

I managed to win and get one trophy. The game is cleared if you win 10 matches in total. Conversely, if you lose and lose 10 hearts, it's game over. On the first and second days, you only lose one heart if you lose, but on the third and fourth days you lose two hearts if you lose, and from the fifth day onwards you lose three hearts each time.

I'm back at the shop. I've gained gold equal to the 'Income' value, and my experience points have also increased by 12. There was also a message saying that 'collecting three of the same item will upgrade it to a 1-star version, and collecting two 1-star items will create a 2-star item.' It seems there's also a way to make it a 3-star item, but the method is a secret.

I bought a shield with gold and entered day two. I won again this time.

After the battle on the second day, someone appears. Let's click on them.

A selection of options appeared. This time I chose 'Maximum HP +300' and 'Income +10'. It seems that these kinds of events occur occasionally.

Also, on the fourth day, the first perk's effect will unlock the Poison Slot. Items placed in this slot will gain the effect of 'inflicting 1 poison stack when triggered.'

As I progressed through the game, I ended up with three of two different items at the same time. If an item allows you to level up after purchasing it, the shop's background changes.

Upon purchase, it instantly leveled up to a ★1 item. It seems you receive a treasure chest upon leveling up, and I did receive one at the same time. Since it was level 3 this time, it was an epic treasure chest.

Opening the treasure chest reveals three items. It appears you can choose one of them.

As you level up, rarer items will appear in the shop. The item 'Elvish Orb' shown in the image below has the effect of 'granting Multicast +1 to the Elven-tagged item in the upper slot' when triggered.

Items where placement is important will have an arrow mark indicating which direction they affect other items. This time, I decided to try adding multicast to a shield to increase its durability.

When multicast is applied, a multiplier like 'x3' appears above the item, amplifying its effect when triggered. Thanks to the shield, I managed to win the ninth battle as well.

I've collected nine trophies, and the next win will secure the game. My opponent has two 2-star items. Will I be able to win...?

The final battle of 'Oaken Tower,' a PvP game where you combine items to build the strongest tower - YouTube

My opponent had a build that stacked up a lot of shields, but my poison ignored them. The matchup was favorable, and I won without any trouble.

My record this time was undefeated. I got 10 trophies and cleared the game.

Each play session takes about 30 minutes, making it easy to pick up and play. After finishing a session, you can share your tower data by copying the build code using the button in the upper right corner. Conversely, you can copy a friend's code to battle against their tower. You can also play a dummy battle by clicking 'Fight The Oak'.

Dummy battles involve hitting a stationary opponent until time runs out. Since you can compare tower power based on 'how much damage you inflict,' it's perfect for researching builds.
