' OCR Arena ' has been released, which allows you to load documents into an AI and evaluate its OCR capabilities.

At the time of writing, the rankings were: 1st place 'Gemini 3 Preview', 2nd place 'Gemini 2.5 Pro', 3rd place 'Opus 4.5 (Medium)' (Claude), 4th place 'Gemini 2.5 Flash', and 5th place 'GPT-5.1 (Medium)'. ELO written to the right of the model name indicates the Elo rating score, Win Rate indicates the match win rate, and Battles indicates the number of matches.

The battle starts by loading a new document. You can load a file you have on hand, but if you just want to see the battle, click 'Get a random one' and the battle will start with a random document.

The original image is displayed on the left, and the OCR results from the two AIs are displayed on the right. Below the OCR are buttons labeled 'Vote Model 1' and 'Vote Model 2.' Press the button for the model you think performed the best OCR. If there's a tie, select 'Call it a Tie' below.

Even if there doesn't seem to be any difference at first glance, clicking 'Raw (Diff)' will display the differences in color, making it easier to see the differences between the AIs. In this example, the model on the left had more accurate numbers for the finer details.

After you vote, you will be shown information about the model that performed the OCR. All models start with an ELO score of 1500, and the rating is updated with each vote.

The creators of OCR Arena explained why they created it: 'With document processing at the core of building AI applications, OCR is evolving at a rapid pace. However, while new models are released frequently, evaluating them can be difficult, and benchmarks only provide partial performance, focusing on model performance on their own texts or edge cases. Our goal is to reduce the barriers to testing new models and make OCR evaluation open, unbiased, and based on real-world performance.'
