Sony's high-end digital camera 'RX1R III' with a specially designed 35mm single-focus lens and full-size sensor is reviewed and taken outdoors for various shots.

The RX1R III (DSC-RX1RM3) is a full-frame sensor integrated lens digital camera released by Sony on August 8, 2025. It is designed from the ground up, including the lens, and each camera undergoes rigorous testing to optimize the focal plane and lens position down to the micron level. I was able to borrow the RX1R III, so after

checking out the exterior , I took it outside and tried out a variety of photos.

The appearance and grip feel of the RX1R III are summarized in detail in the article below.

I took the RX1R III outside and took a variety of photos. The photos in this article have not been edited other than by resizing, and by clicking on each photo you can see the original before it was reduced in size. I also set the shooting mode to 'Auto,' leaving the exposure settings and white balance entirely up to the camera.

This time, I decided to take various photos while moving around to take pictures of the Glico sign at Ebisubashi. First, I took photos of the platform and tracks while waiting for the train at Ibarakishi Station.

The train bound for Tengachaya has arrived. If you take this train, you can get to Nihonbashi Station near Ebisubashi without having to transfer.

As this is an area with many foreign tourists, there are many signs written in multiple languages.

'Focal length: 35mm' 'F-number: 5.6' 'Shutter speed: 1/160 sec' 'ISO sensitivity: 100'

There was also an English explanation posted at the entrance to Matsuya.

There are also many duty-free shops.

This photo was taken from Nihonbashi Bridge toward Ebisubashi Bridge. The surface of the Dotonbori River sparkles.

When shooting in backlit conditions, ghosting can occur depending on the angle.

So, I walked along the Dotonbori Shopping Arcade towards Ebisubashi Bridge.

There are many three-dimensional signs in Dotonbori Shopping Street. This is a three-dimensional sign for Kinryu Ramen.

We arrived at Ebisubashi Bridge. It was around 5pm on a weekday, but there were a lot of people there.

'Focal length: 35mm' 'F-number: 5.6' 'Shutter speed: 1/160 sec' 'ISO sensitivity: 160'

The Glico sign was a popular photo spot, with many people striking poses.

The Glico sign was photographed from the edge of the bridge. Click to see the full-size image, and you can see that even the tiny LEDs are clearly visible.

You can also take photos from a little distance away. The 35mm focal length allows you to capture the scenery as it appears at a glance. The focal length is fairly consistent, so you can easily adjust the composition while walking.

I took the subway back to the editorial office.

We also took some night shots in Ibaraki City. The RX1R III does not have an optical image stabilization mechanism such as in-body image stabilization, but it can shoot without any problems as long as there is a light source such as the lights of a shopping street.

'Focal length: 35mm' 'F-number: 2' 'Shutter speed: 1/160 sec' 'ISO sensitivity: 3200'

We also took photos in darker back alleys.

Photographed spiced stir-fried vegetables at

Nepalese restaurant Balpipal .

This is what it looks like when you get as close as possible to focus. The minimum focusing distance is about 14cm.

'Focal length: 35mm' 'F-number: 2.5' 'Shutter speed: 1/160 sec' 'ISO sensitivity: 3200'

I also took a photo of the curry set. When I was using the 'Automatic' setting, the color of the table changed significantly depending on the subject, even when photographing the same table. If you focus on the color of the table, you can see that it is a darker brown than when I photographed the stir-fried vegetables.

'Focal length: 35mm' 'F-number: 5.6' 'Shutter speed: 1/160 sec' 'ISO sensitivity: 3200'

I took a photo of raita (a dish made with yogurt and cucumber). To the naked eye it looked a little lighter yellow, but it turned out to be a deep yellow.

I moved closer to the station and took a photo outdoors on a bright night. I took the photo of the road from atop a footbridge. The focus was set to the center. Click on the photo to see the full-size image and check the resolution.

'Focal length: 35mm' 'F-number: 2' 'Shutter speed: 1/160 sec' 'ISO sensitivity: 160'

Next, we took a photo of a bus terminal. There are many bright lights installed, making it an environment where ghosts are likely to occur, but no noticeable ghosts were observed.

'Focal length: 35mm' 'F-number: 2' 'Shutter speed: 1/160 sec' 'ISO sensitivity: 5000'

I took a variety of photos with the RX1R III, and found that the easy-to-use 35mm focal length allowed me to instantly capture anything interesting I found. While it doesn't have image stabilization, it's capable of shooting in low light without any issues. The full-frame sensor allows for high-resolution photos that set it apart from smartphones, making it ideal for cropping and using only a portion of a photo. However, the shallow grip is a bit of a concern, as it's not easy to take a quick photo with one hand; you have to hold the camera firmly with both hands.

The RX1R III is available at an open price from various online stores, including Map Camera's Rakuten Ichiba store, where it is priced at 598,450 yen (tax included).
