Introducing the high-quality image editing AI 'FLUX.1 Kontext [dev],' an open model that can process images as instructed while preserving the original image

Black Forest Labs released the image generation AI models ' FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] ' and ' FLUX.1 Kontext [max] ' on May 29, 2025. The newly released FLUX.1 Kontext [dev] is positioned as an open-weight model for developers of FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] and is specialized for image editing.

High-quality and high-speed image generation AI 'FLUX.1 Kontext' has appeared, so I tried it out, it supports text and image input and can generate both anime-style and live-action-style images - GIGAZINE



FLUX.1 Kontext [dev] has 12B (12 billion) parameters and can run on consumer GPUs. It is also code compatible with FLUX.1 [dev] and supports frameworks such as ComfyUI, HuggingFace Diffusers, and TensorRT.

Below is an example of image editing using FLUX.1 Kontext [dev]. Starting with the illustration in the upper left, beards are added while preserving the facial features, and a full-body image is generated and made to dance.



Below are the results of testing multiple models, including FLUX.1 Kontext [dev] and OpenAI's

GPT Image 1 , using the benchmark ' Kontext Bench ,' which measures the performance of image editing models. FLUX.1 Kontext [dev] far outperformed existing open weight models, even surpassing the scores of GPT Image 1 in some tests.



Black Forest Labs is also working with NVIDIA to develop a TensorRT version of FLUX.1 Kontext [dev], which achieves 2.14x faster inference speed while maintaining the same performance as the base model.
