Fujifilm's lens-integrated digital camera 'GFX100RF' with a larger than full-size sensor, exterior review: It's surprisingly light at 735g, but the thin grip is a concern

The Fujifilm camera ' GFX100RF ' equipped with a 120-megapixel large-format sensor was released on April 10, 2025. The GFX100RF is GFX's first lens-integrated camera, and is lightweight at 735g, which is light among medium-format digital cameras. I was able to borrow the GFX100RF, so I first took a closer look at its appearance and how it feels to hold.

The GFX100RF package looks like this.

In addition to the GFX100RF body, the set includes a battery, adapter ring, lens hood, protective filter, USB cable, strap, and instruction manual.

The GFX100RF comes in two colors, black and silver, and this is the silver one.

The lens cap is a type that just slips on. There are no tabs to secure it in place, so you can remove it just by pinching and pulling.

The lens is a fixed focus lens, with a focal length of 35mm (28mm in 35mm equivalent) and an aperture of F4. The sensor size is 43.8mm x 32.9mm, and the effective pixel count is approximately 102 million pixels.
The lens has a focus ring and an aperture ring.

The front of the camera is equipped with a digital teleconverter switch lever, which can be moved left or right to change the focal length to 45mm (36mm in 35mm equivalent), 63mm (50mm in 35mm equivalent), or 80mm (63mm in 35mm equivalent).

The back is equipped with a viewfinder and LCD monitor.

The viewfinder has approximately 5.76 million pixels.

The LCD monitor is 3.15 inches in size and has approximately 2.1 million pixels.

The LCD monitor is tiltable and can be adjusted to an angle of up to 90 degrees.

There is a memory card slot cover on the left side.

When you open the cover, you'll find two memory card slots, which are compatible with SD cards, SDHC cards, and SDXC cards.

There is a terminal cover on the right side.

The connectors include a microphone release connector, a headphone connector, a USB Type-C connector, and a Micro HDMI connector.

The battleship section is made from cut aluminum.

Equipped with a hot shoe.

This is the aspect ratio switching dial. By turning this dial, you can instantly switch between aspect ratios such as '3:2', '4:3', '16:9', '65:24', '17:6', '3:4', '1:1', '7:6', and '5:4'.

There is a battery slot and a tripod screw hole on the bottom.

The battery is '

The actual weight of the GFX100RF including the battery is 753g.

Let's try attaching the included adapter ring, protective filter, and lens hood.

First, remove the front ring that comes with the product by turning it counterclockwise.

It came off.

Attach the adapter ring.

Set the adapter ring so that the black mark is at the 12 o'clock position.

Twist the outside of the adapter ring clockwise to secure it in place.

The protective filter included was '

Screw it in clockwise.

Lens hood.

Insert it horizontally.

Rotate it 90 degrees clockwise to complete the installation.

This is what it looks like with the adapter ring, protective filter, and lens hood attached. The adapter ring and lens hood are also made from cut aluminum, achieving both design and light blocking properties.

The lens hood cap can be removed by sliding it upwards.

This is what it looks like when you remove the cap.

I'll also try attaching the included strap.

First, insert the strap ring cover.

All you have to do is attach the strap ring.

The included tool makes it easy to open the strap ring.

Once installed, the strap length cannot be adjusted.

When you attach the adapter ring, protective filter, lens hood, and strap to the GFX100RF, it weighs 886g.

It looks like this when you hold it. It is quite light for a medium format digital camera, and you won't feel its weight if you hold it with both hands. However, the grip is thin, so it is unstable when held with one hand.

There is no protrusion on the back, so it's difficult to decide where to place your thumb. It seems best to place your thumb near the AE lock and AF lock buttons.

The GFX100RF is sold at the official online store for 830,500 yen (tax included). It is also sold at various camera shops and electronics retailers, and is also sold at Amazon.co.jp for 830,500 yen (tax included).
