What kind of photos can you take with the iPhone 16e, which has one 48-megapixel camera? I tried taking a variety of photos.

The

iPhone 16e , released by Apple on February 28, 2025, is a cheaper version of the iPhone 16, with only one 48-megapixel Fusion camera on the back. I actually took some photos with the iPhone 16e to see what kind of photos it can take.

All the examples shown below were taken using the iPhone 16e's original camera app, and were basically taken at life-size. The thumbnails have been reduced in size to 560 pixels on the long side, but you can click on them to see the original images before they were reduced in size. The maximum resolution is 8064 x 6048 pixels, and the file size is about 2MB to 15MB.

The flower above was photographed at 2x magnification from the same position. ISO32, 0ev, 1/85sec, 4032x3024 pixels, file size 2.2MB.

The much talked about cheese naan. The iPhone 16e does not have an ultra-wide-angle camera, so there is no macro mode, but it can take a large picture of food while sitting at a restaurant. ISO 125, 0ev, 1/40 sec, 8064 x 6048 pixels, file size 15.3MB.

Night view taken in normal photo mode. ISO3200, 0ev, 1/14 sec, 4032x3024 pixels, file size 1.9MB.

Same composition, taken in night mode. It's a long exposure, so it's pretty bright, but there's still some camera shake. ISO 500, 0ev, 3.4 seconds, 4032 x 3024 pixels, file size 1.9MB.

A sunrise shot at 5:50am. The gradation was captured without any problems. ISO160, 0ev, 1/60sec, 5712x4284 pixels, file size 3.4MB.

Below is a 4K 30fps movie shot with the iPhone 16e. The iPhone 16e can shoot movies at 720p 30fps, 1080p 30fps, 1080p 60fps, 4K 24fps, 4K 30fps, and 4K 60fps. The image stabilization is electronic, and correction is applied by zooming in. This 4K 30fps movie was about 25 seconds long and the file size was 144.5MB.

The iPhone 16e (left) has a maximum screen brightness of 800 nits as standard. Even when placed next to the iPhone 16 (right) at maximum brightness, there is not much difference, and the iPhone 16 may be slightly brighter. However, the iPhone 16 is likely to be easier to see in extremely bright places such as under direct sunlight.
