Google's Responsible AI Team webpage no longer mentions 'diversity' or 'fairness'

Since the transition to the Trump administration in the United States, companies have been gradually eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion ( DEI ) programs. It has now been revealed that the words 'diversity' and 'equity' have been removed from the webpage of Google's RAI-HCT team, which researches responsible AI and human-centered technology.

Trump, who became the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025, declared shortly after taking office that he would 'abolish radical and wasteful government DEI programs and preferential treatment,' and signed an executive order, abolishing the DEI-related programs promoted by former President Joe Biden.

Following the US government's policy change, companies are gradually abolishing their DEI programs, with several major companies, including Meta and Amazon , ending their own DEI programs. On the other hand, some companies are continuing their DEI programs, and Apple was specifically criticized by President Trump for continuing its DEI program .

It has also been revealed that references to 'diversity' and 'fairness' have been removed from the webpage of the RAI-HCT team, which is responsible for research into AI safety, fairness, and explainability.

Before the update, the webpage used words such as 'marginalized communities,' 'diversity,' 'underrepresented groups,' and 'equity,' but at the time of writing, these words have been removed or replaced with more specific expressions. For example, the word 'diversity' has been replaced with words such as 'all,' 'diverse,' and 'multiple.'

Below is an image summarizing the changes to the RAI-HCT webpage, with the words removed in red and replaced in green.

TechCrunch has reached out to Google for comment, but has not received a response at the time of writing.

In addition, Google had just removed similar DEI-related language from its startup grant website, Google for Startups Founders Fund , in early March 2025.
