President Trump Demands Apple Drop DEI

In response to the policies of the Donald Trump administration, several major tech companies have moved to end their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) commitments, with Apple pushing back against the move. President Trump has singled out Apple for criticism.

Trump, who took office as the President of the United States on January 20, 2025, signed an executive order shortly after taking office entitled 'Abolishing Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Incentives,' repealing all DEI-based support measures promoted by former President Joe Biden.

While several major tech companies, including Google , Amazon , and Meta , are abolishing or scaling back DEI initiatives in response to President Trump's policies, Apple has long opposed the abolition of DEI, and has maintained a firm stance, including calling on shareholders to vote against a proposal from the conservative think tank National Center for Public Policy Research to end DEI initiatives, which is scheduled to be discussed at the shareholders' meeting on February 25, 2025.



The vote was

rejected at the shareholders meeting, and Apple's DEI initiative will continue. Regarding the proposal, Apple explained that 'We already have appropriate compliance procedures in place to address all risks, and the proposed abolition is an inappropriate attempt to limit our ability to manage Apple's normal business operations, talent, teams, and business strategy,' and emphasized that it is important for companies to decide their own management structure.

The National Center for Public Policy Research also made a similar proposal at Costco's annual general meeting, but it was also rejected.

President Trump rebelled against Apple's stance and posted a statement criticizing Apple on his own social media account 'Truth Social' on February 26, 2025. 'Apple should repeal their DEI rules. DEI was a hoax and has been very bad for our country. No more DEI!'



'While we may need to make some changes to our diversity programs as the legal landscape evolves, we remain committed to our culture of belonging,' Apple CEO Tim Cook said.



Cook is working to build a closer relationship with President Trump, including announcing that the U.S. will invest $500 billion in American manufacturing over the next four years. President Trump praised Apple for this investment, saying, 'It's all about trust in what our government is doing.'
