◆1: Pixel 9 series spec comparison
The specs for the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL look like this. The specs reveal that all three models use the same Google Tensor G4 SoC, but even with the same SoC, minor differences in specifications can result in differences in processing performance. Also, looking at battery capacity, we can see that the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have 4700mAh batteries, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has 5060mAh, but actual battery life varies depending on factors like screen size and resolution. So, this time, we'll conduct benchmarks and battery life tests to dig deeper into performance differences that aren't apparent from the specs.

◆2: Compare the results of benchmark tests
To check the processing performance of the three models, we will run the benchmark app ' AnTuTu Benchmark '.
The Pixel 9's overall score was 889,722 points, with a CPU score of 137,063 points and a GPU score of 418,950 points.
The Pixel 9 Pro had an overall score of 948,010 points, a CPU score of 135,263 points, and a GPU score of 452,818 points.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL had an overall score of 919,327 points, a CPU score of 134,038 points, and a GPU score of 449,485 points.
The benchmark scores for the three models are summarized in the table below. The Pixel 9 Pro had the highest score.
| Model name | Pixel 9 | Pixel 9 Pro | Pixel 9 Pro XL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall score | 889,722 points | 948,010 points | 919,327 points |
| CPU Score | 137,063 points | 135,263 points | 134,038 points |
| GPU Score | 418,950 points | 452,818 points | 449,485 points |
| Memory Score | 164,195 points | 161,905 points | 165,601 points |
| UX Score | 169,514 points | 198,024 points | 170,203 points |
We also measured the surface temperature during the benchmark. The upper half of the Pixel 9's surface rose, reaching a maximum temperature of 42.2°C.
The temperature on the backside rose near the camera bar, with the hottest part reaching 41.4 degrees.
The surface of the Pixel 9 Pro rises to 40.3 degrees.
The back side is also 40.3 degrees.
The surface of the Pixel 9 Pro XL is 39.4 degrees.
The temperature on the back was 39.7 degrees.
◆3: Compare battery life
To compare the battery life of the three models, we measured the time it took to run out of battery by playing a YouTube video from 100% battery.

We set up the camera as shown below, took a picture every minute, and measured the time it took for the screen to go black. During the measurements, the volume of each device was set to about 50%, the brightness was set to about 80%, and the room temperature was 25°C. We also used a Wi-Fi connection instead of a mobile network.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL powered off 19 hours and 9 minutes after the measurement began.
After 19 hours and 34 minutes, the Pixel 9 also turned off.
The Pixel 9 Pro ran out of power after 20 hours and 33 minutes.
The table below summarizes the time it takes for the battery to run out from 100%. The Pixel 9 Pro XL has a larger battery capacity than other models, but because of its larger screen size, the battery life is relatively short.
| Model name | Battery life |
|---|---|
| Pixel 9 | 19 hours 34 minutes |
| Pixel 9 Pro | 20 hours 33 minutes |
| Pixel 9 Pro XL | 19 hours 9 minutes |
◆4: Compare charging speeds
We connected the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL to a charger with the battery level at 0% and recorded the battery level until they were fully charged. The charging adapter used was the ADTec APD-V140AC2-BK , which supports USB PD 3.1, and the USB cable used was the E Core 'All-Purpose Cable (100W PD-Compatible Cable, 1m, with dedicated stand),' which can be purchased at 100-yen shops.
Below is a graph showing the remaining battery life every 10 minutes. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro were fully charged in 90 minutes, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL took 80 minutes.
The results of measuring the current, voltage, and power during charging using the USB tester '
The Pixel 9 Pro uses the PD3.0 27W charging protocol, and consumes around 24W, the same as the Pixel 9.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL's charging protocol is 'PD3.0 36W,' with a power output of around 33W. Although the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a large battery capacity, increasing the input power during charging enables faster charging.
◆5: Compare camera performance
The Pixel 9 has two rear cameras, while the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL have three. The camera performance of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL has been thoroughly examined in the following article. To summarize briefly, the results were that 'the performance of the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras is identical, so if you don't need a telephoto camera, the Pixel 9 is fine,' and 'the telephoto camera's digital zoom is quite excellent, so if you want to photograph distant subjects, the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL is definitely recommended.'

◆6: Summary
Because the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a large battery capacity, I thought its strength would be its long battery life. However, after actually testing it, I found that its battery life was actually the shortest of the three models. In other words, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is best suited for people who simply want a smartphone with a large screen. The features of the three models can be summarized as follows:
Pixel 9: The cheapest of the three models. Recommended for those who don't need a telephoto camera.
Pixel 9 Pro: Recommended for those who need a telephoto camera. Long battery life is also a plus.
Pixel 9 Pro XL: Recommended for those who want a smartphone with a larger screen
