Pichai described the diverse ways in which AI is being used—from students preparing for final exams with Gemini, to artists leveraging generative AIs like Lyria and Veo as part of their creative process, and developers bringing ideas to life through coding—as 'amazing,' and added that these examples are the best indicators of progress.

Then, he cited 'tokens' as another concrete indicator to measure how much people are using AI. Tokens are the basic units of data that AI models process, and many represent problems that need to be solved.

According to Pichai, Google processed 9.7 trillion tokens in May 2024. This number continued to increase slightly, reaching 480 trillion in May 2025. A year later, in May 2026, it reached 3,200 trillion. This represents a sevenfold increase in the past year.

More than 8.5 million developers use Google's AI every month, and Google's AI Model API processes approximately 19 billion tokens per minute. In the past year, more than 375 Google Cloud customers have each processed more than 1 trillion tokens. Pichai explained, 'This shows that there is tremendous demand for AI from all industries.'

Pichai stated that Google is entering the era of 'agent-based Gemini,' and expressed his excitement, saying, 'I look forward to seeing how this technology will accelerate our mission and pave the way for new ways in which we can evolve our products to be even more useful to everyone around the world.'
