Benjamin Mayo, a reporter for 9to5Mac, encountered a problem where his iPhone Air wouldn't turn on after its battery ran out and he tried charging it with a USB-C cable. No low battery warning appeared on the iPhone Air's screen, and 'it was as if the device was broken,' Mayo said.

Mayo attempted to charge the iPhone Air with multiple USB-C cables, but none of them were able to charge the device. Furthermore, when the iPhone Air was connected to a Mac with a USB-C cable, it apparently did not appear in the Mac's Finder.

Multiple reports on the internet indicate that the same problem is occurring with all models of the iPhone 17 series, which were released in October 2025. However, the frequency of this problem and the number of users experiencing it are unknown at the time of writing.

Furthermore, this problem doesn't seem to be affecting all new iPhones released in 2025, nor does it necessarily occur in every specific model when the battery runs out. Mayo said that since purchasing an iPhone Air in September 2025, the battery has run out two or three times, but this was the first time it wouldn't turn on even after charging.

The most common and effective solution is to place the iPhone on a MagSafe charger and leave it there for about 15 minutes. Mayo also successfully started up her iPhone Air using the same method.

A 9to5Mac reader commented, 'This happened to my Apple Watch Ultra 2. When the battery runs out, I plug it in and it powers on and starts charging after 30 to 45 minutes. This has been happening since January 2026. I suspect a new problem may have occurred with a software update .'

When an iPhone user who had encountered a similar problem on the internet took their device to an Apple Store, an Apple Store engineer also recommended that they 'charge the device with a MagSafe charger.'
