'Shenxing' is a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for EVs that supports fast charging, which Ningde Times has been developing since announcing its first-generation model in 2023.

CATL, a major EV battery manufacturer, has announced an ultra-fast charging battery that can travel 400km on a 10-minute charge, with shipments expected to begin in 2024 - GIGAZINE

According to Ningde Times' announcement, the newly announced third-generation 'Shenxing' (Shenxing III) can be charged from 10% remaining to 35% in just over a minute, to 80% in 3 minutes and 44 seconds, and to 98% in 6 minutes and 27 seconds.

Batteries have a weakness in that they are vulnerable to cold, and one of the challenges for EV batteries is cold-weather compatibility. However, the 'Shinko III' can be charged from 20% to 98% in just over 9 minutes, even in an environment of -30°C.

In addition to 'Shinko III,' other technological advancements were also announced, including the nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery 'Kirin III,' which can travel 1,000 km on a single charge, and the 'Kirin Agglutinative Battery,' which has a maximum driving range of 1,500 km.

According to Chief Scientist Wu Kai, Ningde Times is developing a multi-chemical system to cover diverse usage patterns, from urban transportation to ultra-luxury cars and heavy trucks, and to serve all segments of the market. He also stated that they have been able to reduce the risks associated with fluctuations in the prices of raw materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. Wu added, 'In a complex world, diverse answers are needed, so new energy sources should not be provided for only a limited number of uses, but should expand into more regions, industries, and applications.'

Chairman Robin Zeng also stated, 'We have not yet reached the limits of electrochemistry, and the possibilities of materials science are endless.'
