Ruby Central has announced that it has terminated its contracts with its Executive Director, public relations agency, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and has ended several external outsourcing contracts. The reason for terminating these contracts is quite simple: 'These were necessary measures to ensure the long-term sustainability of Ruby Central.'

'Ruby Central is facing serious financial difficulties. We are working to resolve this situation by cutting costs, reviewing contracts, expanding and diversifying our fundraising efforts, and realizing our larger vision for building a stronger and more inclusive Ruby Central community for the future,' they explained.

Furthermore, Ruby Central has decided to begin a reorganization in April 2026, making its steering committee a volunteer-based organization. This means that instead of the steering committee advising a full-time executive director, the committee members will take on direct roles and responsibilities alongside a team of dedicated staff and volunteers. Ruby Central has also decided on drastic staff cuts and reductions in discretionary spending, as well as the continuation of RubyConf , its conference for the Ruby community.

Furthermore, Ruby Central stated, 'We choose to move forward. We do not want any conflict, and we believe the community does not either. We believe in Ruby, and we believe in

MINASWAN . We believe the community is still unleashing its full potential. As a board, we have spent countless hours of volunteer work cleaning up past turmoil and stabilizing the present. And now we are focused on building the future,' listing the following as future priorities:

- Clarify how important decisions are made and who participates.
- Enhance the security and reliability of RubyGems .
Invest in the future of Ruby and continue its growth.
- Restore and rebuild trust throughout the community, and win that trust through perseverance and results.

Furthermore, to stabilize and further develop the Ruby ecosystem, we have announced a new project called 'DREAM.' DREAM is a project that will drive Ruby's evolution toward AI maturity. AI is rapidly moving towards practical applications, and developers are already rebuilding the same infrastructure over and over again to make AI easy to use, testable, and reliable. If nothing is done, this effort will continue to be fragmented in isolation between companies and the ecosystem, and Ruby risks falling behind as modern development trends change. In fact, Ruby is currently appearing less frequently in API and SDK support. For Ruby to survive, it needs to be reliably reflected in the tools and standards that developers use every day.

Therefore, DREAM will focus on the following: This is an effort to ensure that Ruby is not just stable, but actively supported, competitive, and attractive for next-generation applications.

- Easily integrate AI tools and workflows into Ruby applications.
- Improved evaluation, visibility, and developer experience.
Identify and resolve gaps that hinder adoption of the latest stack.
- Ensure that RubyGems and related tools support these new patterns.
- Promote and expand Ruby support in APIs, SDKs, and new community standards.

In addition, Ruby Central has established a systematic apprenticeship program for developers from groups that have not previously had sufficient opportunities. This will allow apprentices to work on actual projects such as DREAM alongside maintainers and experienced contributors within the Ruby Alliance. The goal of this program is to cultivate the next generation of Ruby contributors while expanding access to the ecosystem.

The Register, a technology media outlet, reports that the major overhaul by Ruby Central is a result of the controversy surrounding RubyGems, the package management system for the Ruby language.
