While it's easy to run an AI-powered, autonomous 'agent' on your own PC, setting it up for others to use presents numerous challenges, including ensuring security, configuring permissions, and handling connection interruptions.

The newly introduced Claude Managed Agents leverage the infrastructure already built on the Claude platform, allowing users to easily build agents tailored to their specific needs, skipping the challenges of creating a secure execution environment, managing state and permissions, and rebuilding agent loops in response to model changes—issues that often plague deployments to production environments.

The architecture of Claude Managed Agents is as shown in the diagram below. The harness in the center invokes Claude's AI, and based on the AI's responses, it accesses sandboxed execution environments and external tools, collaborates with other AIs, and manages sessions.



Claude Managed Agents allows you to deploy coding agents that read codebases, create fix plans, and generate pull requests; productivity agents that join projects, take on tasks, and work with team members; and financial and legal agents that process documents and extract important information, all within days. It's also claimed to increase product delivery speed tenfold.

Anthropic has been providing Claude Managed Agents to multiple organizations on an early deployment basis, and one example is Rakuten, which was able to deploy sales and marketing agents using Claude Managed Agents within a week.




Claude Managed Agents are already available on the Claude Platform at the time of writing. Pricing is based on usage , with charges based on the number of tokens used by the AI model, plus an additional $0.08 (approximately 13 yen) per hour for active time.
