Intel's post is as follows:

'Intel is proud to be a part of the Terafab project, working with SpaceX, xAI, and Tesla to help reinvent semiconductor manufacturing technology.'

Our ability to design, manufacture, and package ultra-high-performance chips at scale will accelerate Terafab's goal of generating 1 terawatt per year of computing resources to power the future advancements in AI and robotics.

It was an honor to welcome Elon Musk to Intel last weekend!

Terafab is a semiconductor production project led by Elon Musk, which is touted as 'bridging the gap between future semiconductor production and demand.' When the project was announced in March 2026, it was revealed that Tesla, xAI, and SpaceX, all companies in which Musk is involved in management, would be participating, and Intel has now become the fourth company to join.

Musk has described the Terafab project as 'the most ambitious chip manufacturing project ever,' and is putting a lot of effort into it. The project will center around an advanced manufacturing facility planned for Austin, Texas, where it will mass-produce AI chips for a wide range of applications, including self-driving cars, robots, and computing systems for space. In the future, the company has set ambitious goals, such as building data centers not only on Earth but also in space.

In the AI industry, the demand for computing power has continued to rise with the development of AI, and the shortage of GPUs has become a bottleneck to growth. Companies promoting AI have been receiving GPUs from external chip vendors such as NVIDIA, but Terafab is pursuing vertical integration and plans to handle everything from chip design and manufacturing to packaging in-house.

Until now, none of the companies participating in the Terafab project had experience in chip manufacturing. However, Intel's announcement of participation, given its extensive experience in chip design and manufacturing, is likely to be a boost for the project.
