The Apple Watch is equipped with an optical heart rate sensor, which analyzes data from the heart rate sensor over a 30-day period. The Hypertension Pattern Alert feature uses this heart rate sensor to notify the user if consistent signs of high blood pressure are detected.

You can turn notifications on or off using the Health app, which comes standard on iPhone.

The notification looks like this: It says 'Possible high blood pressure' and advises you to see a doctor for a more detailed diagnosis.

According to Apple, the Hypertension Pattern Notification feature was developed using data from over 100,000 subjects and has been validated in clinical studies of over 2,000 people. While Apple explains that 'Hypertension Pattern Notification will not detect all cases of hypertension,' it expects that 'within the first year, we expect to notify over one million people with undiagnosed hypertension.'

The Apple Watch Series 11 is available for purchase starting at 63,491 yen including tax.
