The smart home standard 'Matter 1.5' supports camera operation, which may enable simultaneous control of surveillance cameras from different manufacturers

Matter is a common standard for smart home devices, allowing devices from different developers to connect to each other as long as they support Matter. The Matter standard is updated every few months, and Matter 1.5 , released on November 20, 2025, supports multiple functions, including camera operation.

◆ Supports camera operation
Matter 1.5 supports local and remote connections to network-connected cameras. Camera video and audio transmission is performed using WebRTC. It also supports camera angle adjustment and zoom, and privacy zone settings. It also offers flexible storage options, including continuous recording, event-specific recording, local storage, and cloud storage.
With various cameras supporting Matter 1.5, users will be able to manage cameras from different manufacturers in one place, and developers will also benefit from easier interoperability.

◆Compatible with soil sensors
Matter can be used to manage soil sensors that measure temperature and humidity in gardens, lawns, etc. By combining it with a Matter-compatible water supply valve, you can automate watering tasks.
◆ Strengthened opening and closing control
Matter 1.5 brings new functionality to opening and closing home gates, garage doors, window blinds, and more. Developers can now support a variety of action types, including 'slide' and 'rotate,' for consistent opening and closing control.
◆ Strengthening energy management functions
The energy management function has also been revamped, allowing compatible devices to share data provided by power companies, such as electricity bills, forecasts of future electricity bills, and carbon emissions. This allows devices to adjust their operation to meet electricity bill targets. The electric vehicle charging function has also been enhanced, with improved support for bidirectional charging and charging status reporting.
◆Improved data transfer
Matter 1.5 supports data transfer using TCP transport, accelerating operations involving large amounts of data transfer, such as sending and receiving camera footage and firmware updates.
