We thoroughly tested the processing performance of the 2025 models 'VAIO SX12' and 'VAIO SX14' on the premise of replacing the older models, and found that they encode 4K video twice as fast as the models from five years ago.

The VAIO SX12 is positioned as a 'high-end compact mobile' and the VAIO SX14 as a 'high-end large-screen mobile.' Details of the appearance and ports of both models are summarized in the article below.
The appearance of the 2025 model 'VAIO SX12' and 'VAIO SX14' looks like this, the keyboard has a sharp appearance with 'no kana display' option - GIGAZINE

Both models are available with a choice of CPUs: Intel Core 7 150U or Intel Core 5 120U , and memory capacities: 16GB or 32GB. This time, we decided to review both models with an Intel Core 7 150U CPU and 16GB of memory. The VAIO SX 14's display can be selected from a 'non-touch 4K LCD display,' a 'non-touch Full HD LCD display,' or a 'touch Full HD LCD display.' This time, we chose the 'non-touch Full HD LCD display,' which has the longest battery life according to the specifications. Other specs are as follows:
| Model | VAIO SX12 (VJS127) | VAIO SX14 (VJS147) |

Before benchmarking, we set the power mode to 'Optimal Performance' to get the best performance.

Additionally, I have switched the CPU and fan mode to 'Performance Priority' in the 'VAIO Settings' settings app.

First, let's measure the storage performance. I checked the storage information using '

The results of measuring storage transfer speeds using ' CrystalDiskMark ' are as follows. The VAIO SX12 had a sequential read speed of 7059.80MB/s, a sequential write speed of 5804.61MB/s, a random read speed of 742.50MB/s, and a random write speed of 615.47MB/s. The VAIO SX14 had a sequential read speed of 7011.19MB/s, a sequential write speed of 5826.36MB/s, a random read speed of 736.56MB/s, and a random write speed of 609.84MB/s. The performance is almost identical.

Next, we ran the CPU test using the popular benchmark app

The OpenCL GPU test score for the VAIO SX12 was 15,003, while that for the VAIO SX14 was 15,045.

With Vulkan, the VAIO SX12 scored 19,079 and the VAIO SX14 scored 19,933.

We also ran the '

The score for '1920 x 1080 Standard Quality (Notebook PC)' was 6167 for the VAIO SX12 and 6205 for the VAIO SX14.

We also ran the benchmark app '

The CPU scores are as follows: While the VAIO SX12 and VAIO SX14 are equipped with the Intel Core 7 150U, which has excellent power-saving performance, the ThinkPad X13 Gen 6 is equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 7 255H, which is specialized for processing performance. As a result, the ThinkPad X13 Gen 6 had the highest CPU score.

The 2D graphics scores are as follows:

In terms of 3D graphics, it is far behind the ThinkPad X13 Gen 6.

The memory score is as follows:

The VAIO SX12 and VAIO SX14 stand out in terms of storage scores.

To verify performance in real-world tasks, rather than just benchmarking, we measured the time it took to encode a 4K video. The source data used was a 4K video file from '

Set the output resolution to 3840 x 2160 pixels and perform the H.265 encoding process.

The encoding time was 6 minutes 19 seconds for the VAIO SX12 and 6 minutes 20 seconds for the VAIO SX14. This shows that the VAIO SX12 and VAIO SX14 perform almost identically not only in benchmark tests but also in actual PC tasks.

The same encoding process on the 2020 VAIO SX12 took 12 minutes and 11 seconds to complete. The 2025 VAIO SX12 and VAIO SX14 offer twice the encoding speed of the 2020 VAIO SX12, so you can expect to experience significantly faster PC tasks.

After running various benchmarks, we found that despite the difference in size, the VAIO SX12 and VAIO SX14 have almost the same processing performance. Therefore, there's no need to worry that the VAIO SX12's smaller size means it sacrifices performance. One remaining question remains: 'Does the difference in size mean a difference in battery life?' We plan to publish an article examining battery performance soon.
