The appearance of the 2025 model 'VAIO SX12' and 'VAIO SX14' looks like this, the keyboard can be selected 'without kana display' and has a sharp appearance

VAIO's 12.5-inch notebook PC ' VAIO SX12 (VJS127) ' and 14.0-inch notebook PC ' VAIO SX14 (VJS147) ' were released in September 2025. The editorial department at GIGAZINE uses the '

The VAIO SX12 comes in six colors: Fine Black , Fine Red, Bright Silver, Urban Bronze , Rose Gold , and Fine White, while the VAIO SX14 comes in five colors: Fine Black , Fine Red , Bright Silver , Urban Bronze , and Fine White . This time, I borrowed a VAIO SX12 in Urban Bronze and a VAIO SX14 in Fine Red. Fine Red is a VAIO Store exclusive color, and a special all-black ' ALL BLACK EDITION ' model is also available.

First, let's take a closer look at the Urban Bronze VAIO SX12's exterior. The top panel is brown and the VAIO logo shines gold.

The back of the tabletop also has a glossy finish, just like the logo.

I tried opening the screen.

When you open the screen, the back of the top panel becomes a stand, and the back of the keyboard is raised off the ground, creating an inclined shape.

The screen can be opened up to 180 degrees.

This is what it looks like from the side.

The LCD display is 12.5 inches in size, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and has an anti-glare finish.

The top of the display is equipped with a full HD webcam, which also has a privacy shutter that physically blocks the view from the lens.

The keyboard can be selected from 'Japanese layout with kana display,' 'Japanese layout without kana display,' and 'Alphabet layout.' This time, I chose 'Japanese layout without kana display.'

The alphabet keys are approximately 15mm wide, and the key pitch (the distance from the center of one key to the center of the adjacent key) is approximately 19mm.

The keyboard is backlit, so you can type without hesitation even in dark places.

The left side has an exhaust vent, a USB Type-A port, and an earphone jack. The USB Type-A port is rated at USB 5Gbps (USB 3.0).

The right side of the device is equipped with one USB Type-A port, two USB Type-C ports, an HDMI port, and a wired LAN port. The USB Type-A port is USB 5Gbps (USB 3.0), while the USB Type-C port is Thunderbolt 4 and USB4. The USB Type-C port supports USB PD and also supports DisplayPort 1.4 for video output.

There are no ports on the front side.

The back looks like this.

The dimensions are 287.8mm wide x 15.0-17.9mm high x 205.0mm deep. To get a better idea of the size, we placed an A4 clear file on the top.

The actual weight is 882g.

Let's take a closer look at the Fine Red VAIO SX14.

The back of the tabletop is shining silver.

This is what it looks like when you open it.

The VAIO SX14's screen can also be opened up to 180 degrees.

The LCD display is 14 inches and can be selected from 'non-touch 3840 x 2160 pixels,' 'non-touch 1920 x 1080 pixels,' and 'touch 1920 x 1080 pixels.' Since I wanted to match the conditions with the VAIO SX12, I chose 'touch 1920 x 1080 pixels.'

Above the display is a full HD webcam with a privacy shutter.

As with the VAIO SX12, you can choose from 'Japanese layout with kana display,' 'Japanese layout without kana display,' and 'English layout.'

The alphabet keys are approximately 15mm wide and have a key pitch of approximately 19mm.

It also has a backlight.

Other than the size, the specifications are almost identical to the VAIO SX12. The left side has an exhaust vent, a USB Type-A port, and an earphone jack.

On the right side are one USB Type-A port, two USB Type-C ports, an HDMI port, and a wired LAN port. The specifications of each port are the same as those of the VAIO SX12.

There are no ports on the front side.

The shape of the back is almost identical to the VAIO SX12.

The dimensions are 320.4mm wide x 13.3-17.9mm high x 222.9mm deep, which is slightly larger than an A4 clear file.

It can easily fit into any bag that can fit an A4 size laptop.

The actual weight was 1028g.

The VAIO SX12 and VAIO SX14 are almost identical in appearance except for their size and weight, and we found that they also have the same keyboard and port specifications. We're curious to see how much difference there is in processing performance, so we'll be publishing an article comparing them using various benchmarks soon.
