One day, Lothar says, the Galaxy Ring he was wearing on his finger began to swell and he was unable to remove it. He began to feel pain and felt a tightness that seemed to increase every few minutes. He tried to remove it with water and soap, but to no avail.
Ahhh…this is…not good.

My Samsung Galaxy Ring's battery started swelling. While it's on my finger ????. And while I'm about to board a flight ????
Now I cannot take it off and this thing hurts.
Any quick suggestions @SamsungUK @SamsungMobileUS ? pic.twitter.com/LOO1kSlQUw
Mr. Lothar was about to board a plane, but felt unsafe and approached airport staff, who denied him boarding due to safety concerns and recommended he go to the airport clinic.
Lothar then arrived at the hospital and, with the use of ice and medical lubricant to reduce swelling, was able to successfully remove the ring.

There are several possible reasons why the Galaxy Ring expanded: Lothar was in Hawaii at the time, so the temperature could have been a factor, as could the fact that he had taken several long-haul flights recently, or that he had been exposed to seawater.
However, even before the swelling, the Galaxy Ring was already experiencing battery issues: The battery capacity, which was supposed to last seven days, had dropped to two to three days after one month of use, and eventually died within one day.
Furthermore, Mr. Lothar found it troublesome to remove the ring, and sometimes he would leave it on his finger for about a month without charging it. Even after charging it for a while, it would not turn on, and he would have to charge it for a whole day before it would finally start up.
According to Lothar, Samsung contacted him after the incident, retrieved the ring for investigation, and arranged for hotel and transportation for the day.

Others on social media have also reported swelling and reduced battery life on their Galaxy Rings, with one YouTuber reporting that the battery 'didn't last a day, so I replaced it, and the replacement also didn't last a day.'
