Reuters reported, citing three anonymous sources, that Amazon plans to cut up to 30,000 jobs. Amazon has a total of 1.55 million employees, including those of its subcontractors, but only about 350,000 are Amazon employees, meaning 30,000 would be roughly 10% of the workforce.

In addition, the company is cutting 18,000 jobs in 2023.

Previous layoffs have focused on the retail and human resources departments, but this latest plan will affect almost all businesses, including web services, CNBC reports.
In June 2025, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy warned employees that the company would face job cuts due to the use of generative AI and AI agents to improve work efficiency.

According to sources, one of the measures to reduce staff numbers was to reduce remote work and encourage people to return to the office, but the results were insufficient, leading to this large-scale personnel reduction plan.

According to Layoffs.fyi , which tracks layoffs in the tech industry, 153,000 jobs will be lost across the industry in 2024, with around 98,000 jobs lost across 216 companies so far in 2025.
