Anthropic is an AI development company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees. They are developing Claude, a conversational AI that not only chats but also functions as an agent. Anthropic's corporate philosophy is to develop 'responsible AI,' and they frequently publish reports on the values that AI embodies and examples of AI misuse .

Bloomberg reported on October 21, 2025 (local time), citing people familiar with the matter, that Anthropic is in talks with Google, a cloud service provider, about a deal that would provide it with tens of billions of dollars of cloud computing capacity. Google is also a cloud provider that has previously provided computing resources to Anthropic.

The deal, which has not yet been finalized, will allow Anthropic to use Google's

Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), a processor specialized for machine learning. Google provides TPU processing power through its cloud computing service, Google Cloud, and is expected to further accelerate Anthropic's AI development.

Google itself is developing the multimodal AI ' Gemini ,' and could be considered a competitor to Anthropic in AI development, but it is also a long-time investor in Anthropic.

Google plans to invest $2 billion in Anthropic in 2023 and $1 billion in early 2025 , bringing its total investment to approximately $3 billion.

Like Google, Amazon is also an investor and cloud provider in Anthropic, with a total investment of $8 billion (approximately 1.2 trillion yen) .

The news sent Google shares

up more than 3.5% in after-hours trading, while shares of Amazon, another Anthropic investor and cloud provider, fell about 2% in after-hours trading.
