Bloomberg reported that Samsung plans to showcase its first tri-fold smartphone at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, scheduled to be held in Gyeongju, South Korea, at the end of October 2025.
According to a person familiar with the matter, Samsung's first tri-fold smartphone will be unveiled at the APEC summit in South Korea on October 31, 2025. It won't be a traditional product launch, but rather will be displayed in a glass showcase, meaning the leaders of the world's economies won't be able to touch or operate the phone.
According to TechRadar, this isn't the first time rumors have circulated that Samsung will unveil a tri-fold smartphone at the APEC summit. Earlier this month, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported that Samsung was planning to unveil its first tri-fold smartphone, citing industry sources.

Regarding Samsung's tri-fold smartphone, Yonhap News reported, 'Many questions remain about the device, most notably previous reports that it may only be sold in South Korea and China.' This means the question remains whether Samsung's tri-fold smartphone will be available for purchase outside of South Korea and China. CNN also reported that it has received information from a person familiar with Samsung's plans that the company is considering selling the tri-fold smartphone in the US, which would likely lead to sales in other regions as well.
Samsung's latest folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold7, has recorded a strong performance, with new purchases in the US increasing by more than 50% compared to its predecessor. Therefore, Samsung may consider selling tri-fold smartphones in a broader market, as folding smartphones are no longer a niche product, Yonhap News reported.

According to reports, Samsung's tri-fold smartphone will have a folding design, three independent batteries, and a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. It may also have up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The hinge connecting the displays will reportedly be the same as that used in the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
In July 2025, it was reported that Samsung's tri-fold smartphone would feature a 'G-shaped' design, with both side panels folding inward.

Apple, which is competing fiercely with Samsung in the smartphone market, is also reportedly planning a foldable smartphone. South Korean media outlet The Elec cited a Mizuho Securities report on Apple's foldable iPhone, reporting that 'Apple's final design and specifications, including the hinge, will take time to be finalized, making it difficult to mass-produce the foldable iPhone in the third quarter of 2026 and launch it in September.'
While Apple has reportedly procured millions of display panels for the foldable iPhone, The Elec points out that there is still a shortage of display panels given the actual production volume, leading them to predict that the foldable iPhone will not be released until 2027 or later.
