The American Innovation Dollar Coin is a multi-year initiative launched in 2018 to issue dollar coins symbolizing innovation in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. In 2026, California, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota will be issuing coins.

The design of the California coin is shown below. It depicts a young Steve Jobs against a typical Northern California landscape: rolling hills covered with oak trees. Jobs is depicted with a contemplative posture and expression, demonstrating how the California environment inspired Jobs' vision of transforming complex technology into something intuitive and organic, like nature itself. The coin is inscribed with the words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,' 'CALIFORNIA,' 'STEVE JOBS,' and 'MAKE SOMETHING WONDERFUL.'

The Wisconsin state coin features the world's first commercial supercomputer,

the Cray-1 , developed by the Wisconsin-based company Cray. At first glance, it doesn't look like a supercomputer, but this is a simplified top-down view of the Cray-1.

The design for Iowa was chosen to represent Norman Borlaug, an agricultural scientist and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Borlaug was born into an Iowa farm family and is credited with developing disease-resistant wheat, which doubled or tripled wheat productivity. The technological innovations in grain production led by Borlaug are also known as the 'Green Revolution.'

Minnesota's state coin depicts a '1940s truck equipped with a refrigeration unit.' A practical truck refrigeration unit was developed in 1938 by

Frederick McKinley Jones, a Minnesota resident.

The design above is featured on the reverse of the coin, while the obverse features the Statue of Liberty and the phrase 'IN GOD WE TRUST.'
