From the Samsung Group, Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Heavy Industries will participate in the partnership, supplying semiconductors, providing chip packaging technology, jointly developing AI data centers and providing AI services for businesses, and supporting Korean companies in implementing OpenAI ChatGPT Enterprise.
Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries will collaborate, focusing in particular on the joint development of floating data centers. Floating data centers are considered to have advantages over traditional data centers in that they can alleviate land shortages, reduce cooling costs, and lower carbon dioxide emissions. However, they have not been widely deployed due to their technical complexity. The two companies will also explore development opportunities for floating data center infrastructure, as well as floating power plants and control center projects, based on their own proprietary technologies.

The announcement came following a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Samsung Group Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
'South Korea has all the ingredients to be a global leader in AI: excellent technical talent, world-class infrastructure, strong government support, and a vibrant AI ecosystem,' said Altman. 'We are excited to work with Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and the Ministry of Science and ICT through our global Stargate initiative to support South Korea's AI ambitions.'
