A closer look at the appearance of Sony's integrated lens digital camera 'RX1R III' - a masterpiece that combines a full-frame sensor and a 35mm prime lens in a compact body

Sony's integrated lens digital camera, the RX1R III (DSC-RX1RM3) , was released on August 8, 2025. The RX1R III is a compact, lightweight camera equipped with a full-frame sensor and a 35mm prime lens. The lens itself is designed to optimize the focal plane and lens position down to the micron level. Sony was able to borrow an RX1R III, so we first took a closer look at its exterior.

This is the RX1R III. The lens is a one-piece, fixed type, not a retractable type. The RX1R and Sony logos are lined up on the top.

The lens is a 35mm prime lens with a 49mm filter diameter, an F2 aperture, and nine aperture blades. The sensor is a 35mm full-frame (35.7 x 23.8mm) Exmor R CMOS sensor with a maximum effective pixel count of approximately 61 million for still images and approximately 50.8 million for videos.

The side of the lens has a blue Zeiss logo.

Between the focus adjustment ring and the aperture ring is a macro switch ring that allows you to change the focus range.

The back looks like this.

The rear monitor is a 3-inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 2,359,296 dots and supports touch operation. It does not have an angle adjustment mechanism.

The viewfinder is an organic EL display with 2,359,296 dots and a magnification of approximately 0.70x.

The button layout within reach of your right thumb is as follows:

Warship section.

It has a multi-interface shoe with electronic contacts.

The shutter button has a screw hole so that a release button (sold separately) can be attached.

On the left side is the viewfinder diopter adjustment dial and terminal cover.

Hidden under the terminal cover were the microphone terminal, USB Type-C terminal, and Micro HDMI terminal.

There are no ports on the left side, but the front side has a raised area for your thumb to rest on, and it also has a customizable C2 button.

The grip part on the lens side is less raised.

There is a tripod hole and battery cover on the bottom.

The battery and SD card can be inserted into the battery cover. One SD card can be inserted, and it supports UHS-I and UHS-II.

The battery used is

the NP-FW50 .

The combined weight of the RX1R III body, battery, and lens cap is 539g.

This is the included eyepiece cup.

This is what it looks like when the eyepiece cup is attached to the viewfinder.

A shoulder strap is also included.

This is what it looks like with the shoulder strap attached.

The total weight of the RX1R III body, battery, lens cap, eyepiece cup, and shoulder strap was measured at 574g.

I actually tried holding it. It's small and lightweight, so it doesn't tire you out even when you hold it for a long time.

The grip is thin, so it feels more like you're holding it lightly with your hand rather than holding it firmly.

The finger hook is small, so I feel uneasy holding it with one hand. Because it's small and lightweight, the shaking of your hand and arm is easily transmitted, making it difficult to hold with one hand. You should not be lazy and should hold it firmly with both hands when taking pictures.

The RX1R III is available at an open price from various online stores, including Map Camera's Rakuten Ichiba store, where it is priced at 598,450 yen (tax included).
