Google Search's 'AI mode' will be available in Japanese

Google has announced that its AI-powered search feature, ' AI Mode ,' will be gradually rolled out to Japanese users. It will enable users to find long, complex questions in a single search, which previously required multiple searches.

According to Google, an 'AI mode' has been added to the search tab, and users will be able to get AI answers by searching from this tab.

Apparently, the AI mode can be used on PC and mobile browsers, as well as the Google app for Android and iOS.

AI mode uses a custom version of Gemini 2.5 to help Search with more complex tasks like finding local recommendations, planning trips, and understanding complex procedures.

For example, it is said that you can ask questions such as, 'Please create a 6-night, 7-day travel plan departing from Kyoto Station. The plan should focus on activities such as visiting traditional crafts and historical sites, and also include recommended restaurants for dinner.'

These questions are broken down into topics, and searches are performed on each topic, allowing Google to explore the web much more deeply than traditional Google searches, finding more relevant content that best suits each individual question.

In AI mode, you can ask questions using voice, camera, or other methods other than text. The company aims to display AI-generated answers whenever possible, but if the answer is deemed unreliable, it will display web search results.

In addition to Japanese, the service will be gradually launched in Indonesian, Korean, Hindi, and Portuguese (Brazil).

At the time of writing, we were unable to confirm the AI mode in our editorial environment. It seems that you can also experience the AI mode by accessing the following link, but the only message displayed was, 'AI mode is currently unavailable on your device or account.'
