Google app 'Live Search' releases AI-based two-way voice conversation, listening and search functionality

Google has announced that it will release a voice-activated ' live search ' in the Google app for Android and iOS. The feature is available to US users who are registered for the AI mode experiment in Google Search Labs, and will enable users to freely search and explore links on the web by voice.

Google has released the following movie showing how to actually use live search: A search is performed by interacting with AI on a smartphone, and the results are displayed as links on the screen.

Google explains, 'This is great for when you're on the go or multitasking, like packing for a trip. Just open the Google app and use live search to ask, 'Do you have any tips for keeping my linen dress from getting wrinkled in my suitcase?' You'll get a response from an AI-generated voice, and you can easily ask a follow-up question like, 'What if it still gets wrinkled?''

Live Search works in the background, so you can seamlessly continue the conversation while you have another app open. You can also tap the 'Transcript' button to have the AI transcribe your answer and continue asking questions via text chat.

At the time of writing, it is only available in the United States and has not yet been rolled out in Japan. Live search is available in 'Google Search Labs,' which allows you to use features currently being tested. 'Google Search Labs' can be accessed by tapping the Erlenmeyer flask in the upper left corner of the Google app.

The style of interacting with AI in live search is almost the same as that introduced in Google's Gemini app, as shown in the movie below. However, since the dialogue in the Gemini app cannot display the results of the AI search as a link, it can be said that the live search announced this time is easier to access information.

According to Google, live search using not only voice but also the camera will be available in 2025.
