YouTube raises minimum age for live streaming to 16, with those under 15 required to be accompanied by an adult

YouTube has updated its Help Support page, announcing that it will raise the minimum age for live streaming on YouTube from Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Until now, children under the age of 13 were required to be accompanied by an adult when posting live streams, but from July 22, this age limit will be raised to 16 years old.

YouTube has warned that if users under the age of 16 continue to live stream without an adult after July 22, they may have their live chat disabled and their access to other features temporarily suspended.

YouTube also said that it will eventually remove live streams that are found to be in violation of its rules, and that users who have their accounts restricted will also be banned from live streaming on other channels. Violations of this rule could ultimately result in the account being suspended. Creators affected by the rule changes will be notified by email if their streams are removed.

Creators under the age of 16 who want to continue live streaming will need to give an adult access to their channel as an Editor, Admin, or Owner so they can start streaming from an account linked to their channel.

YouTube says adults collaborating with creators under the age of 16 must be 'visibly present' and clearly demonstrate their participation in the live stream as well.

Engadget, an IT news site, reported that it had asked YouTube why it decided to make this change but did not receive a response.
