Appearance review of the high-spec smartphone 'Xiaomi 15' equipped with Snapdragon 8 Elite and Leica brand camera - GIGAZINE

The Xiaomi 15 is a smartphone jointly developed by Xiaomi and Leica, and is equipped with three cameras: a Leica main camera, a Leica 60mm floating telephoto camera, and a Leica ultra-wide-angle camera. All three cameras have an effective pixel count of 50 million pixels, and the three cameras are collectively named the Leica VARIO-SUMMILUX 1:1.62-2.2/14-60 ASPH.

I took it outside to see what kind of photos I could take.

To check the difference in the angle of view of the three cameras, we took pictures from the same location while changing the zoom ratio.

At a magnification of 0.4x, you can take pictures with the Leica Ultra Wide-Angle Camera. The focal length in 35mm equivalent is 14mm. The sample photos in this article have not been edited except for reducing the size, and you can click on the photos to see the original size before reducing them.
At 1x, you can shoot with the Leica main camera. The focal length is equivalent to 23mm in 35mm format.

At 2.6x, I shot with the Leica 60mm Floating Telephoto. As the name suggests, the focal length is 60mm in 35mm format.

The Xiaomi 15 also supports digital zoom shooting up to 60x. At 10x it looks like this. When reduced in size, it was possible to record with image quality that was not noticeable.

Below is a photo taken at the maximum magnification of 60x. Even when reduced in size, there is noticeable noise in the resulting image.

The photo below was taken with a zoom factor of 1. The bird is in the area surrounded by a red frame.

The Xiaomi 15 camera app has two photo styles: 'Leica Vibrant' and 'Leica Authentic.' According to a person in charge at the time of the release of

To confirm the difference between the Leica Vibrant and the Leica Authentic, I tried shooting various subjects in two photo styles. First, I shot a bicycle with the Leica Vibrant.

This is what it looks like with the 'Leica Authentic'. The image looks like an old lens, with the periphery darker and the center brighter. Also, the saturation is lower than with the 'Leica Vibrant'.

With the Leica Authentic, the edges of the image are darker, making the young leaves in the center stand out more.

I took a photo of the dal bhat (set menu) inside the restaurant. The Leica Vibrant took a bright picture.

With the Leica Authentic, the surroundings became darker, creating a retro feel.

By the way, Xiaomi also supports macro photography, so you can get up close and take pictures like this.

Below is a photo taken as close as possible to the focal point.

I took a photo of tandoor-grilled chicken with the Leica Vibrant. To the naked eye, the color of the dish is a darker pink, but it appeared bright pink.

The Leica Authentic is closer to the color seen with the naked eye.

In the Leica Authentic, the fabric parts are lighter.

Photos were also taken with the Leica Authentic.

It supports macro photography, so you can get up close and personal with small flowers like this.

With the Leica Authentic, the edges of the image become darker and the center stands out, creating a striking image of white flowers.

I also took photos of other flowers with the Leica Vibrant.

I also took photos with the 'Leica Authentic'. Depending on the subject, the way the two styles are used may not change much, but some may change significantly. Therefore, it is fun to try out different styles and see which one suits your taste best.
