GitHub Copilot , an AI tool implemented by GitHub, released a new feature called 'Coding Agent' in public preview. This feature allows you to assign GitHub issues to Copilot, which then solves them. However, when you look at how it actually works, there are posts that say it's too poor.

GitHub Copilot's coding agent is an AI agent that reviews code, edits it, tests it, and even leaves comments on each issue.

This agent has already been introduced to the ' runtime ' part of the official Microsoft repository, but it has been found to have several issues, including the fact that some of the issues that the coding agent claims to have 'solved' have not actually been resolved.

For example, in

the pull request 'Implement CompareInfo.Version for Hybrid Globalization,' Microsoft developer Matus Kozak and others asked GitHub Copilot to fix it, but GitHub Copilot repeatedly failed tests and made unnatural fixes.

Many other

pull requests have also failed, with some criticizing the developer, saying, 'Why don't you stop wasting time on AI and solve the problem yourself? You're wasting a ton of electricity on machines that produce bad code.'

On the online bulletin board Reddit, a post titled 'My new hobby: watching AI slowly drive Microsoft employees crazy' became a hot topic, with comments such as 'I like that the AI says 'I fixed it,' the human says 'No, it's still broken,' the AI makes a change and says 'No problem, I fixed it,' and repeats a few more times.' 'Unfortunately, I've worked with human developers who follow exactly this pattern,' as well as 'The problem is that there is no solid evidence that the model will actually be improved and feasible in the next 10 years. Testing and research are one thing, but putting it into production is a whole other thing. Major software companies are run to satisfy shareholder interests.' Comments were made objecting to the release of an unfinished and uncertain product.

The GitHub Copilot coding agent is available to paid Copilot Pro+ and Copilot Enterprise subscribers, and will be available to GitHub Mobile users on iOS and Android as well as GitHub CLI. At the time of writing, it is still in public preview, and we expect the functionality to improve in the future.
