Copilot Mode arrives in Microsoft Edge, where Copilot understands the context of tab content and gives you ideas

The way we browse the web has remained fundamentally unchanged for decades: open a tab, search for something, and read the page contents. However, Microsoft has announced that it has added a new experimental mode called ' Copilot Mode ' to its web browser, Microsoft Edge, citing that 'AI is bringing about a turning point in how we interact with the web.'

Copilot Mode enables AI features in Edge that extend the browser's capabilities. Instead of waiting for you to click, Edge predicts what you want to do next and acts as a fully understanding collaborator.

When you open a new tab in Copilot Mode, you'll see a page with a single input box that integrates chat, search, and web navigation.

If you have multiple tabs open, and with your permission, Copilot can load the content of each tab to understand the overall context of what you're exploring online. For example, when you're thinking about where to stay on a trip, you can interact with Copilot to quickly narrow down your search to 'where is the accommodation closest to the beach' or 'does it have a kitchen?', saving you time and effort.

Copilot also now supports natural language navigation, so you can talk to it directly to tell it what you want to do, whether it's to find information within a page or open multiple tabs to compare the differences between products. Copilot reduces the amount of clicking and typing, helping you get things done faster.

Additionally, you'll soon be able to grant Copilot access to additional information, such as your history and credentials, enabling it to perform even more sophisticated and seamless actions, like using your membership information to book a gym appointment or plan a trip.

Copilot Mode is available in Edge on Windows and Mac starting today, July 29, 2025.
