'Project Starline' was first announced in 2021. There have been many video calling tools in the past, but Project Starline's selling point was that the images were 3D instead of 2D, allowing communication as if you were meeting face-to-face.

Then in 2025, at Google I/O 2025, it was announced that Project Starline would evolve into Google Beam.

Google's partnerships with Zoom and HP are continuing, with HP receiving its first Google Beam devices in the coming weeks, and then rolling them out to select customers in the second half of 2025.

In addition, Alex Heath of the news site The Verge actually experienced using Google Beam to talk in 3D without wearing AR glasses, and commented, 'It feels futuristic.' I'm curious to know how much richer the experience will be compared to the 3D TVs that were popular a while ago.
