Microsoft to continue security updates for Windows 10 Microsoft 365 apps until 2028

Windows 10 is an operating system that was released in 2015. Initially, mainstream support for Windows 10 Home and Pro was scheduled to end in 2020. However, due to a review of the lifecycle, the end date of mainstream support has been postponed to October 14, 2025, which was originally set as the deadline for extended support.

Support for the Office suite, Microsoft 365 apps, was also scheduled to end on October 14, 2025, but Microsoft revised the support page in late April 2025 to extend the support deadline to October 10, 2028.

According to Microsoft, 'To maintain security until you upgrade to Windows 11, we will continue to provide security updates for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 for three years, until October 10, 2028, after the end of support for Windows 10.'
'We strongly encourage users to upgrade to Windows 11 to avoid performance and reliability issues over time,' Microsoft said.

According to security firm ESET, as of January 2025, approximately 65% of all Windows PCs used in German homes were running Windows 10.
