President Trump vows to impose 100% tariffs on films made outside the US

President Trump announced on his Truth Social account that he plans to impose a 100% tariff on 'movies made overseas and imported into the United States.'

President Trump's statement is as follows:

'The American film industry is dying fast.

Other countries are offering all sorts of incentives to lure filmmakers and studios away from the U.S., which is devastating Hollywood and many other parts of the country.

This is a concerted effort by other countries, a national security threat, and intimidation and propaganda, among other things.

Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce and the Office of the United States Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of imposing a 100% tariff on all films made abroad and imported into our country.

We want to make movies in America again!'

According to The Guardian, former Commerce Department official and senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies William Reinsch said, 'Retaliation will kill our industry. We have much more to lose than we have to gain,' explaining that it would be difficult to make a national security or national emergency case in relation to the film.
