The number of monthly active users in the fourth quarter of 2024 increased by 20 million from the previous quarter to 320 million, showing no signs of slowing down, and the number of monthly active users in the first quarter of 2025 increased by 30 million from the previous quarter to 350 million.
According to the news site Social Media Today, the number of monthly active users of X (formerly Twitter) and Threads was 500 million and 100 million, respectively, as of October 2023. X has increased 1.2 times to 600 million over the past year and a half, while Threads has increased 3.5 times, and in terms of growth rate, Threads is catching up ferociously.

In addition to Threads, Meta also owns apps such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, and says that more than 3.4 billion people use at least one of these apps every day.
Zuckerberg described Threads' growth as 'on track to become the next major social app,' and said that improvements to its app recommendation system have led to a 35% increase in time spent in the app.
Social Media Today has also pointed out the suspicion that X is not actively cracking down on bot users, which means that its 'monthly active user count' still includes a large number of bots, and has suggested that Threads is quite close to X.
