It's 'absolutely impossible' to make the '20th anniversary iPhone model' in India in 2027

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, an Apple insider, has said it would be 'absolutely impossible' to make the 20th anniversary iPhone model in India, due to be released in 2027.

When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2020, large-scale factory closures were carried out in China, which had a major impact on Apple, which outsourced much of its iPhone production to its supplier Foxconn's Chinese factories. Due to trade friction between the US and China, Apple has set up production bases outside of China to reduce risk. In the future, the company hopes to produce half of the world's iPhones in India. Meanwhile, China, which stands to lose market share, has shown signs of opposition, such as rejecting applications to export production machinery to India.

In the past, it was pointed out that the parts for iPhones made in India were of low quality, but according to journalist Mark Gurman, for the current model, iPhones made in India are now comparable to those made in China.
However, special 20th anniversary models like the iPhone X, which Apple released in 2017 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, have a more complex structure than the current model, so it would be difficult to make them in India.

According to Gurman, the 20th anniversary models include the first foldable iPhone and a new, more 'glass-centric' Pro model, and are unlikely to be produced outside of China, where production is already stable. India should be able to produce these devices in the future, but Gurman asserts that it's a no-go, at least not by the time the model is released in 2027.
There are also reports that the foldable iPhone is expected to be released in 2026.

Gurman also reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook is focusing on smart glasses, which are codenamed 'N50' and are being developed as a device equipped with Apple Intelligence. Meanwhile, 'Air Pods with a camera' are also being developed. Regarding the development of multiple smart glasses, Gurman stated his view that 'there are a significant number of consumers who don't want to have something in their ears all day.' Gurman commented that it is 'still shocking' that Apple is developing a competing product while being far ahead of Meta.

In addition, Gurman pointed out that regarding the blood oxygen monitoring feature that was removed from the Apple Watch, 'Apple has the financial resources to either settle the lawsuit (with Masimo, the manufacturer that holds the patent for that feature) or rebuild the feature using Masimo's patent, but they have not done so.'

He also expressed the view that Apple will likely take steps to disrupt the current situation, as competition in the wearable device market is intensifying with products such as Finnish company Oura Health oy's Oura Ring .
