Tesla Cybertruck deliveries halted after exterior parts fly off

Electrek, a news site specializing in electric vehicles, has reported that Tesla's Cybertruck electric vehicle (EV) is experiencing a problem where an exterior part attached to the roof above the doors can come off, and that deliveries are being delayed in order to address the issue.

There are reportedly at least eight owners on the Cybertruck Owners Club , a forum for Cybertruck buyers, who are waiting for their car to be delivered, and many people on social media are also reporting delays to the arrival of their vehicles.

Most buyers are told by Tesla delivery representatives that their vehicles are 'on containment.' Containment refers to proactive measures that automakers take to address quality issues or defects in vehicles before they reach customers.

While many buyers haven't been told what the specific issues are, one customer shared a screenshot of the Tesla service app in which a Tesla representative said the Cybertruck was experiencing an issue with a trim part called the 'Cantrail.'

According to Electrek, the cantrail is a decorative part of the roof shown in the red frame in the image below.

Electrek explained, 'Despite Tesla's claims that the Cybertruck is bulletproof and built with

an exoskeleton , the EV's structure is actually much closer to a traditional unibody system than an exoskeleton. Most of the body parts that would be part of the chassis in an exoskeleton are actually trim pieces attached to the body. In some cases, it's very fragile trim.'

In February 2025, a video was uploaded to YouTube pointing out problems with Cantrail.

YouTuber Reid Tomasko speculates that the freezing temperatures may have caused the adhesive to deteriorate.

The issue is believed to be related to

a complaint filed with the government in February 2025, in which an owner alleged that the trim on the top of the Cybertruck's windows appeared to be attached only with glue, and would have come off completely if they hadn't noticed it was coming loose and repaired it with construction adhesive.

The Cybertruck previously faced a recall of 11,000 vehicles due to falling off trim and faulty wipers, and Electrek reports that photos have been circulating on social media that show the Cybertruck's front plate being glued in place.

The suspension of deliveries is believed to have begun in early March 2025, with some scheduled deliveries being canceled and buyers not being told when they will be able to receive their vehicles.

'Depending on how loose the trim is, it could take several weeks to resolve the delays,' said The Verge, an IT news site.
