Tesla has $300 million worth of Cybertrucks in stock

In response to the actions and words of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, protests and boycotts known as the 'Tesla Takedown' have broken out in Europe and the US, with the impact manifesting itself in the form of a decline in Tesla vehicle

sales and used prices . In addition to the deterioration of the image of the CEO, who is the face of the company, the Cybertruck, an electric pickup truck, has been hit particularly hard by delivery delays and recalls , and EV news media Electrek has reported that Tesla has $200 million (about 30 billion yen) worth of Cybertruck inventory in the United States.

According to Electrek, the Cybertruck, which began deliveries in December 2023, has not gotten off to a good start, and Tesla has explained the low delivery numbers by citing production delays, the fact that the price of the fully equipped 'Foundation Series' has become too high, and that it is no longer eligible for tax credits.

However, things didn't improve after that, so Electrek reported, 'All of these excuses won't work for Tesla this year. It's becoming clear that the Cybertruck is difficult to sell, forcing Tesla to cut production numbers to prevent inventory from building up too much.'

Below is a graph showing the availability of each model published by Tesla Info , a website that provides Tesla vehicle information.

Electrek noted that the Cybertruck inventory in the US reached 2,397 units as of April 1, 2025, meaning that Cybertruck inventory was worth approximately $200 million.

Sales of used Cybertrucks are as low as sales of new ones, so Tesla is not accepting any trade-ins. Many Cybertruck owners have reported that when they tried to trade in their Cybertrucks for a new car, Tesla told them they were not accepting trade-ins for their vehicles.

Some owners who had been driving the Cybertruck for a while tried to give up on trading it in and have Tesla take it back, but Tesla told them to use

the Lemon Law, a consumer protection law for defective vehicles.

At the time of writing, the price of used Cybertrucks was down 55% year-on-year, 13% three months ago, and 6% month-on-month. Electrek said, 'The price of used Cybertrucks is falling so rapidly that it's no wonder Tesla doesn't want to take them.'

Although Cybertruck sales have fallen considerably, Electrek believes that 'the price is still far from bottom.' In addition, with a significant amount of inventory piling up, Electrek predicted that 'Tesla will soon offer discounts on the standard model of the Cybertruck.' The reason Tesla is not offering discounts immediately is because it is waiting for the Foundation Series inventory to sell out.

Rear-wheel drive (RWD) models are expected to be sold at even lower prices thereafter, and these discounts are expected to have an impact on used car prices as well.

Regarding the Cybertruck's future developments, Electrek said, 'I'm really interested to see where this vehicle program goes. I know a lot of people have already given up, but who knows what will happen. Maybe it will be revived with improvements in the 2026 mid-cycle update.'
