News site XDA Developers discovered a message inside the Skype for Windows preview version that read, 'Skype will no longer be available from May. Please continue calling and chatting with Teams,' and reported that Skype may end in May 2025. Later, Microsoft also officially announced the end of Skype.

According to Microsoft's announcement, the shutdown of Skype is being done to 'make our free consumer communications services more efficient and responsive to customer needs,' with a transition period running until May 2025.

As part of the transition, a feature will soon be available that will allow you to sign in to the free version of Microsoft Teams with your Skype user information.

Also, if you don't want to migrate to Microsoft Teams, you can export your Skype contacts, chat history, and call history.

Due to the decision to end the service, Skype Credit , which is used for monthly plans and prepaid calls and SMS to overseas users, will no longer be provided to new users. Users who already have a Skype monthly plan can continue to use it until the next renewal time. In addition, any remaining Skype Credit can also be used.

The Skype Credit page says 'Skype Credit is no longer available.'
