Most Apple products come with a one-year hardware warranty and 90 days of free technical support after purchase, and you can extend the support period by two or three years by subscribing to AppleCare+.

However, Apple has made a policy change regarding AppleCare+, and it has been revealed that the company plans to eliminate the 'one-time purchase' plan for AppleCare+. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who is familiar with Apple information, reports that at least when you apply for AppleCare+ in a store, only subscriptions will be offered, and lump-sum payments will be an option only in the online store for the time being.

Reports that multi-year plans for AppleCare+, an extended warranty service for Apple products, will be phased out - GIGAZINE

This measure is believed to have started in the United States from the week of Monday, February 3, 2025, and the news site 9to5mac reports that 'AppleCare + for Vision Pro will cost $24.99 (about 3,840 yen) per month or $249 (about 38,200 yen) per year.'

Gurman pointed out that the cost of AppleCare+ for iPhone for the iPhone 16 Pro is $13.99 (about 2,150 yen) per month, which is more expensive than the previous $269 (about 41,300 yen) for a two-year lump sum payment. He added, 'AppleCare representatives have been told to explain to customers that this is a way to reduce upfront costs and prevent gaps in future coverage.'

It is unclear whether the changes to AppleCare+ policies will be applied to other countries, including Japan, or whether they will remain in the United States only.
