In manga, ``pull'' is the most important thing! 'It's a Gas Shop!!' Episode 7 Complete Edition Making Commentary that clearly shows the ingenuity

Episode 7 of the full-color manga `` It's a Gas Shop!!' ' in which Kiyu Kase, a new graduate, joins a small gas company and struggles, is set before Kiyu gets a job. Story. The story is told in the form of flashbacks about Kiyu, who encounters a gas dealer after struggling to find a job and having to reevaluate herself and her future. This is an important episode that reveals Kiyu's personality and roots, and is an important development that connects the previous story with the future story, so I'm paying more attention to the 'pull' of the last page than usual. We will deliver a making-of video with an explanation of what kind of ideas were used during production.

In the initial name, the 'pull' of episode 7 was as follows. The flashback begins at the end of episode 6, and it is revealed that although Kiyu is now cheerful and straightforward, she was quite worried during her job search. Time returns to the present day, and Kiyu once again remembers how he felt while job hunting. How will the emotions of that day affect Kiyu in the future? The ending left a slightly disturbing feeling.

The first change is Kiyu's facial expression at the end. Also added is Kiyu's monologue, ``I'm doing my best at Stargazing (Gas Shop)!'' In the original name, Kiyu has a slightly anxious look on her face, giving the feeling that ``the flashbacks in episode 7 are a sign of a disturbing development.'' However, in the changed name, Kiyu has a smiling face, so ``The flashbacks are a sign of a bright future.'' It is a foreshadowing of developments. In this way, just a single frame can greatly change the feeling of the entire episode, so you need to consider it carefully.

Also, in the case of serialized manga, the ``pull'' may not be matched by simply having people think it was ``interesting.'' In the case of episode 7, flashbacks are the main episode, and the initial pattern of ``looking back with a slightly disturbing expression'' and the pattern of ``showing positive feelings after receiving flashbacks'' are both similar to the pattern of ``the ending was too beautiful.'' There is a possibility that it will be too much and make it feel like the final episode. Therefore, after writing out the plot for episode 8, we decided to ``show elements that will appear in the next episode.'' The image below depicts a new character who appears in episode 8 and plays an active role until the final episode.

A similar idea for 'pull' can be seen at the end of the first episode. The image below on the left shows Kiyu giving a present to a customer who likes flowers after completing her first contract. The story is beautiful, but since it felt too complete here, it was changed to show a glimpse of the development of the second episode, as shown on the right in the image below.

In addition, I pay close attention to even the smallest details so as not to spoil the reading experience. In the scene below, after Kiyu returns home after the company tour, the president and Arika are looking at the resume Kiyu brought. However, since the resume did not appear so far in the initial name, there were questions such as ``When did you give it to me?'' or even if you gave it somewhere, ``Arika-san doesn't know and asks, ``What is that?'' There was a slight sense of discomfort, as I felt that this was strange.

Therefore, we added a cut to the scene where they first meet, ``Kiyu hands over his resume.'' Small incongruities like this can be hard to spot during production, so it's important to have readers who don't know anything about it read it.

Also, ``reading it for the first time without knowing anything'' is an important perspective even when explaining something in detail. There is an explanation on the left side of the image below, but there is so much information that I feel like I am being overwhelmed while reading it. Therefore, I changed it to a table-like format. In the middle of the image below, the flow is 'right to left' according to the reading direction of the manga panels, but the text in the table is a mixture of 'left to right' horizontal writing and vertical writing, making it difficult to read. Because of this, I unified it into vertical writing.
