The 'Openprinter' is fully repairable, compact, and uses refillable ink to reduce printing costs; it's also open source, allowing you to create your own custom parts.

In countries like the United States, there is a growing desire to establish a 'right to repair' that would allow consumers to freely repair products manufactured by companies. Printers are frequently targeted in discussions about this right to repair, as they often only accept genuine ink cartridges. A project called 'Openprinter' is underway to create open-source printers, making it easy for anyone to build their own.

This is what the Openprinter looks like. It's a printer measuring 111mm (height) x 497mm (width) x 233mm (depth).

A key feature is that all parts are either commercially available standard components or custom-made using a 3D printer. It can also be customized to your liking.

The ease of refilling ink cartridges is a key feature. Because each cartridge is independent, common issues found in printers from major companies, such as 'the yellow ink is empty, so I can't print with black ink,' do not occur.

Supports both roll paper and single sheets. Prints A4 and A3 sizes. Compatible operating systems include Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and connects via USB Type-C or Wi-Fi.

In addition to the standard desk-top style, it also supports wall mounting.

The finished product is planned to be offered through crowdfunding, but since it is still under development, we are not accepting donations at this time. The price and other details are also unknown.
