GitHub states, 'We've heard your feedback and we share your sentiments. In light of recent trends regarding physical media, we're pleased to announce that GitHub now makes public repositories available on CD-ROM. Keep one for yourself, lend it to a friend, or pass it on to your child. Your code is yours forever, physically, until you lose it. Order yours now.'

GitHub also provides a pre-registration form for its physical disk writing service. By accessing the form below, you can register your GitHub username, repository name, full name, and address. However, this service is limited in quantity and will only be sent to the first 1000 people who meet the criteria. Also, the delivery area varies by region, and it may take several weeks to receive the physical disk.

The background to GitHub's announcement is, as GitHub mentions, 'recent developments regarding physical media,' specifically Sony's announcement that it will end production of physical discs for new PlayStation 5 games in January 2028.
